HORIBA OPSA-150 is a new Organic Compounds and Persistent Organic Pollutant Analyser that uses HORIBA’s proprietary Rotary Cell Length Modulation, a measuring technique incorporating 25 years of expertise. The OPSA can be used as an organic pollutant monitor at drainage systems for determining compliance with COD monitoring regulations, for monitoring quality of water measuring levels of organic matter at water supply intakes, and as an organic monitor on process lines (phenol meter).

OPSA-150: Advanced sensor with Patented Rotary Cell Length Modulation

Zero drift correction is performed in every cycle of measurement. This correction can eliminate the effect of any interference on cells.	Cell length modulation provides readings from multiple measurements, making available results from various cell lengths. This allows the single device to make measurements on a large range of concentrations from as low as 0 to 0.1 Abs, up to 0 to 5.0 Abs.

The OPSA-150® Persistent Organic Pollutant Analyser is designed to exceeds the requirements for COD and TSS online monitoring in a broad range of applications including environmental compliance (discharge water at WTP), pollution control (surface waters, rivers, lakes…) as well as process automation at industrial sites (process waters).

A zero drift compensation is performed during each measuring cycle to eliminate potential interferences from punctual and discontinuous changes in the sample composition and/or measuring conditions. Thanks to its cell length modulation and automatic zero drift compensation, the OPSA-150 covers a wide and dynamic measuring scale with a detection limit as low as 0 to 0.1 Abs.

OPSA-150® Organic Pollutant Analyser is designed for integration in Water quality monitoring stations (WQMS) or mobile laboratories to achieve REAL TIME Monitoring of Organic Compounds for the protection of surface water, spring water, rivers and groundwater.

Organic Pollutants and Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic compounds that are resistant to environmental degradation through chemical, biological, and photolytic processes. Because of their persistence, POPs bioaccumulate with potential adverse impacts on human health and the environment. The effect of POPs on human and environmental health was discussed, with intention to eliminate or severely restrict their production, by the international community at the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants in 2001.

Organic pollutants originate from domestic sewage (raw or treated), urban runoff, industrial (trade) effluents and farm wastes. Sewage effluents is the greatest source of organic materials discharged to freshwaters. In England and Wales there are almost 9000 discharges releasing treated sewage effluent to rivers and canals and several hundred more discharges of crude sewage, the great majority of them tot the lower, tidal reaches of rivers or, via long outfalls, to the open sea. It has been assumed, certainly incorrectly, that the sea has an almost unlimited capacity for purifying biodegradable matter.
